Welcome to Paxos-Villas.com!
Why it's worth a visit
Just a few words about Paxos...
Despite being visited by a lot of tourists each year, little parts of
this place have changed through the years and the natives' originality
and hospitality remain unspoilt. Its picturesque villages, the colours,
the crystal clear waters and one of the most beautiful sunsets wait to
be discovered again. And it's not until the boat enters the unique
fiord-like harbour that one finds oneself under the spell of its beauty.
Once one tastes the pure, traditional wine made from selected grapes
grown on Antipaxos vineyards, with no chemical additives and the
excellent olive oil, this place will always be printed on one’s memory.
Eat at the cool seaside taverns watching the colourful caiques and boats
swaying at the quayside, or the pleasant drone of other people walking
up and down the coast road. Taste traditional Paxiot dishes, appetisers,
fresh fish and lobster sipping a cool ouzo. Definitely try a slice of
fresh bread sprinkled with some Paxiot olive oil, and oregano, a fresh
tomato and feta cheese or just spread butter on and enjoy it.
Take scuba-diving lessons, go hiking, hire a boat and explore the caves
of the west coast and if you are lucky enough you may see a
monahus-monahus seal, or a careta-careta turtle, (endangered animals
which are protected by the state), or enjoy a lazy day just lying in the
sun.
Enjoy the white-pebbled beaches and go snorkelling in the clear
turquoise waters.
Early and late summer months are a wonderful time for walking and
exploring Paxos as you will be seduced by the scent of flower and trees
blossom and cannot resist visiting the place over and over again.
Walk around the centre of Gaios, the Venetian capital of Paxos, explore
every neighbourhood, its traditional houses with the little
geranium-filled balconies and windows, meet the local fishermen, buy
fresh fish, calamari or lobster early in the morning when the
fishing-boats come. The first glimpse of this enchanting town is one
that is never forgotten.
